Senior Seminar Project

     I created a podcast episode called Nursing 101 with Pia, this podcast was intended to be accessible to a large audience. I interviewed two nurses who had very different journeys, both within their education and the field or specialty choices they have chosen.

     Throughout the Podcast, I wanted to showcase the multitude of educational journeys, specialty choices, and the ability to change one's specialty at any time. Additionally, these guests gave advice and some insight to future nurses or people in the healthcare field. 

Throughout the conversations I had with them, Mary and Kendra described their experiences. For example when Mary was a new grad, she started off with travel nursing and in the past few weeks, she changed to a full-time position in the PACU, while Kendra started in labor and delivery/ maternal healthcare and eventually went into school nursing. I asked them questions like “Why would you say you chose your specialty? Or did it ‘choose you’?”, “How do you manage stress in such a high-pressure environment?” and “How do you stay updated with the latest developments and practices in your field?” In hopes of grasping a better understanding of the choices one can make within nursing, from current nurses who have had years of experience.

     I created this podcast with a combination of iMovie for putting all of the pre-recorded clips together, as well as voicememos which housed the audio files. Additionally, I created a list of questions to ask while interviewing and a script for the additional aspects of the podcast. For example, the introduction, transitions, and conclusion were all written and organized within my script.

     This podcast episode showed examples of different types of nursing specialties from two powerful women in the nursing profession, with a range of needs/ priorities and overall journeys.
