On Saturday, March 18th, I indulged at my first ever authentic Vietnamese market which was held at the St. Mark the Evangelist Church located in West Hartford, Connecticut. I would say that I am a pretty adventures eater and love to try new foods, and different experiences. My dad, Sandro, is the same way so I invited him to come with me! Upon arrival I spotted our Global Studies group already set up with chairs. We then headed into the aisles of the actual market, my dad and I had a plan. To first scope out the market and then make our tasty decisions. After our loop we started to purchase Vietnamese style foods. We decided to share everything so that we could try different things. Our first food was fresh summer rolls, a sweet sesame ball filled with beans and a sweet and flaky treat. To drink I enjoyed a thai bubble tea (with tapioca pearls), which I have enjoyed countless times before. We made our way to the opposite side of the market towards the end and we found the kebabs which this market is known for. We were very fortunate to enjoy this food because it is typically  so popular that the line wraps around the entire market. Our guess was that because it was rainy earlier in the day and there continued to be cloudy weather with sporadic sprinkles of rain, but we didn't mind! My dad and I also split a spring roll at one of the booths and enjoyed it so much that I went back and got two more to share. Near the entrance of the market we saw another type of summer rolls being handmade and knew that we were coming back. Once we secured a table we ordered one of those rolls to split, as well. Lastly we tried these waffle-like desserts that were shaped like little fish, one was filled with red bean and the other was chocolate. These I saved to enjoy when we got home with my sisters who couldn’t make it to the market. You know that the food is good when you heat it up later in the day and it is seemingly more delicious! I had such a great time at this market that I was asking Dr. O’Brien when the next annual Saturday Night Market was happening! I was astonished to see all of the ethnic food, love and culture shared right in West Hartford literally in a parking lot!
